Japanese folks are known to be the most disciplined individuals which is why it’s astounding to hear news that an anti-masker caused this unscheduled landing.
In Japan, wearing masks is very common to prevent allergies in hay fever season.
So the majority of the public had no problems masking up during the pandemic.
Anti-masker Caused Unscheduled Landing
However, some people are causing trouble by going against the generally-accepted mask policy.
This is almost unimaginable thinking that they probably were already wearing masks in Japan even before the COVID outbreak.
Last Monday, a man refused to wear a mask onboard a flight from Hokkaido to Osaka.
The passenger on Peach Aviation flight didn’t wear a mask before takeoff.
When flight attendants repeatedly asked him to wear it, he refused.
Other passengers said they didn’t want to be near a person not wearing a mask and started to argue with the anti-masker causing chaos.
Flight attendants told him they would give him a written warning if he persists on being disruptive.
He simply ignored the warning and challenged them to “go ahead and try”.
When the captain was made aware of his relentless disobedience, he decided to make an unscheduled landing at Niigata Airport to kick the passenger off the plane.
The flight eventually reached Osaka two hours and 15 minutes later than scheduled, delaying 124 passengers.
The Japanese public praised the pilot and expressed their indignation towards the irresponsible passenger.
“I’m so mad over this. They should charge the idiot for fuel!”
“What a child — I wouldn’t want to be in the same space as that moron!”
“I don’t want to be anywhere near people with low morals like that!”
“So incredibly selfish. He should be blacklisted from air travel.”
“He should compensate everybody on that plane for causing the delay!”
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, this is the first time a passenger caused an unscheduled landing on a domestic flight for refusing to wear a mask.
Why can’t people just wear a mask for a couple of hours during a flight?
I’m pretty certain it would have been a lot easier if he had covered his face for two hours instead of being taken off the flight by security and then stranded in an airport which is not his final destination.
